We Have A Winner!

Buy A Horse Book Day!

Buy A Horse Book Day was Sunday, May 10 (Mother’s Day) and as I mentioned in previous blogs, I was giving away a book bundle…a copy of Common Sense Horse Keeping, the companion journals, a laminated resource guide and who knows what else!

Drum roll please….I am excited to announce that the winner is Shelly from Connecticut! She wrote such a lovely email and told me about her favorite Common Sense Horse Keeping blog (The Joys (?) Of Keeping Your Horse At Home) as well as about her Morgan, whose name is Eagle…such a cool name for a horse, right?

Thank you to everyone who took the time to drop me an email to tell me about your favorite Common Sense Horse Keeping blog. The Top Five blogs, based upon feedback are:

In other news, the weather is heating up, so here is your reminder to keep tabs on the water temperature of your horses’ water buckets and troughs. I have had to relocate some of my tubs into the shade, and because we relocated my goats pen last fall, I am paying close attention to where the hot spots are and moving their water and lounging tables as the shade changes. And since Elmo and Jake share their pen with my ducks and hens, I am monitoring their pools and water as well. We are currently in a drought, so I am trying to be mindful of not wasting water. I still have the insulation wrap on my buckets from when we had a hard freeze in January, and I am curious as to how well it keeps my buckets cooler come July and August. Fingers crossed that it works! Besides keeping a check on the water temperature, be sure to keep tabs that neither you nor your horse are over-heating. Be smart about staying cool…pay attention to the heat index, do that pinch test on your horse to be sure he is hydrated, use appropriate fans to keep them cool and make sure that everyone…horse and rider, are drinking lots of water!
